Mummy Self-care! I know, I keep banging on about it. Here I’ve got a list of 10 Minute Self Care Activities For Busy Mums like yourselves. So what is self care? What does it really mean? I suppose it means different things for different people. To me its something to keep me sane! I may only have one child but to me that’s plenty and a life choice. Being a Mum though can put strain on any woman, irrelevant of how many offspring you have.
Mummy Self-care for me is just a time in the day when I can have some time for me. Me time! Its not a weekend away or a spa trip (although I’d give my right arm for either), its grabbing 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there to sit down, switch off and worry about only me in that time.
Before having William all my time was ‘me’ time. I look back and would moan about work. Work for me now is respite care! I can sit and have a cup of tea while its hot. I can nip to the loo without an audience and check my phone without feeling guilty.
All these things may not seem much but when you have a day when you haven’t looked after yourself, it can build up. Some may choose exercise (I know I should but I don’t at the moment), some may choose eating a nice snack, or maybe catching up with social media. My mantra is ‘Happy Mum equals Happy Son.’ How can you look after your child properly if you are not looking after yourself.
So here are 10 things that you can fit in during the day whether you’re at home with the children or if you’re having a manic day at work. They only take 10 minutes!
10 Minute Mummy Self-Care Activities For Busy Mums
- Go for a little stroll
- Listen to some relaxing music with your headphones (ideal at home when they’re watching CBeebies)
- Remove your nail varnish ready for polishing later
- Drink an ice cold pint of water
- Download an mindfulness app and listen for 10 minutes
- Sit down in a quiet place and do ten minutes of deep breathing (great at work in the ladies if you need some time aw from your desk)
- Read a few pages of your current book/kindle
- Moisturise your hands, arms and neck
- Give yourself a 10 minute foot massage
- Make a cup of tea and drink it while its hot!
This list is just a small fraction of things you can do for yourself but there are so many more. It all depends on you. Only you can look after you, only you know what makes you relax and focus. You may have a hobby like knitting that you can pick up and put down. Start a blog perhaps! My posts take forever to write as I write them in 10 minute sessions in between work, naps and quality time with my son!
Mummy Self-care is totally possible when you put your mind to it. It can make you feel invigorated when you’ve listened to some upbeat music or you’ve had a nice cup of tea and a cheeky cupcake.
Don’t ever feel guilty either. Us Mum’s have a tendency to feel guilty for looking after ourselves, yes you may feel guilty but taking time out for yourself is ok and very necessary!
